Mission Statement

The web site of the senior economist’s office of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS has the following objectives:

  • Dissemination of the research, data, and other knowledge codified by the senior economist’s office via a user-friendly modality, for both UNDP and external users.
  • Provision of networked linkages to other relevant web pages within UNDP, as well as to other UN and external partners. 

This web page features:

  • A blog section, the content for which may be written by guest contributors, as well as by the senior economist. (Click here for guidelines for guest bloggers.)
  • A moderated comments feature, to allow for comments, feedback, and discussion on the web page’s content.
  • UNDP’s vulnerability data bases, which provide a comparative, cross-country overview of high-frequency trends in official data pertaining to food and energy prices, labour market developments, remittances, social protection expenditures, and the like. These data are collected on a monthly basis for BelarusKazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Ukraine. They are updated at least 2-3 times monthly, as new data are released by the statistical authorities. These data can be accessed either by country or by vulnerability criteria.
  • Research materials, consisting of national and regional economics research conducted by the senior economist’s office, by other UNDP and UN offices, and by research partners.
  • Pedagogical and communications materials from the senior economist’s economics training courses, power point presentations for public audiences and the media, and the like.
  • Links to useful UNDP, UN, and other institutions’ web pages, where more data and research materials can be obtained.
