Prague, Carlsbad, June 16 - 20, 2008 This study tour co-funded by the Czech-UNDP Trust Fund hosted 11 delegates from Ukraine including 2 participants from Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the methodology design of the event was based on background information and a situation analysis presented by UNDP BRC on HIV/AIDS in Ukraine on the one hand, and on developments in the tourism industry on the other hand. Ukraine is a home to the fastest growing HIV/AIDS epidemic in Europe, officially, there are more than 100,000 registered people living with HIV. In this regard, Ukraine is becoming a country that exports HIV - both through foreign tourists who come to Ukraine on vacation and through domestic tourists bound for destinations abroad. Taking into account the Czech long-term practical experience in HIV/AIDS prevention and the fact that the Czech Republic is a country with a strong Ukrainian workforce and experiencing also the phenomenon of sex tourism, sharing the Czech experience was highly benefiting in the process of establishing strong cooperation not only within the private and public sector in Ukraine but also on a cross-border level between Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
