Seminar on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Southeast Europe and the CIS

On 27 June 2007 Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Belgium, Federation of Enterprises in Belgium, AGORIA and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) hosted a seminar on opportunities for companies to engage in public-private partnerships in Southeast Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

This seminar promoted responsible investing in the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia and Moldova; Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey.

Participants had opportunities to:

  • Explore partnerships in the following sectors: energy and environment, water, financial services, agriculture and food processing, IT, education, public health, and social investmemts.
  • Meet with brokers operating in Southeast Europe and the CIS (one in each country)
  • Learn about tools, programmes and financial instruments to leverage investments and partnership projects - funding for feasibility studies, investment finance, credit insurance.
  • Hear presentations of existing projects that developed innovative business models and combine profit-making activities with sustainable local economic development of lesser developed countries.
  • Hear country updates on business climate, recent economic reforms, sectoral highlights.
