Gender equality and women's empowerment
UNDP works with national partners to promote gender equality.
This includes developing institutions, laws and policies that help address challenges to gender equality. Main challenges in the region are: women’s economic insecurity, underrepresentation in decision making positions and politics and violence against women.
UNDP supported national partners in the region to reform laws and develop and implement strategies that promote gender equality and address gender based violence.
Countries have also introduced quotas to promote equal participation in politics, and advocated for equality in parliament and public administration.
UNDP also supported women entrepreneurs across the region.
