Scientists in Central Asia join forces in response to glaciers melting at alarming rate

ALMATY, Kazakhstan – 21 June – Scientists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are meeting in Almaty this week to discuss how they can cooperate to better monitor melting glaciers in Central Asia.



Bosnia and Herzegovina Takes on Climate Change

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 26 May 2010-Bosnia and Herzegovina— one of the most biologically diverse countries in Europe— has now officially joined the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This month Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted a national report to UNFCC, making it a full participant in ongoing global discussions of climate change adaptation and mitigation. Июль 2008- Поскольку традиционные формы финансирования развития не в состоянии решить все проблемы, связанные с глобальным изменением климата, в Киотском протоколе предусмотрены такие механизмы, как Совместное осуществление (СО) и Механизм чистого развития (МЧР), позволяющие привлекать финансирование из частного сектора для уменьшения климатических изменений.  МЧР призван  оказывать содействие развитым странам (т.е. странам, перечисленным в Приложении 1 к Рамочной конвенции ООН об изменении климата, или сокращенно РКИК) в выполнении с максимальной экономической эффективностью своих обязательств по сокращению выбросов парниковых газов (ПГ) в рамках Киотского протокола и способствовать устойчивому развитию стран с переходной экономикой и развивающихся государств.

July 2008- Recognizing that traditional forms of development finance would be insufficient to address the challenges of climate change, the Kyoto Protocol introduced the Joint Implementation (JI) and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to leverage private financing for climate-change mitigation. The CDM is intended to help developed countries (Annex I parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC) to reach their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets under the Kyoto Protocol as cost effectively as possible, and to contribute to sustainable development in transition and developing countries.
