The CDM is intended to help developed countries (Annex I parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC) to reach their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets under the Kyoto Protocol as cost effectively as possible, and to contribute to sustainable development in transition and developing countries.
