Winning posters: Advertising against poverty
MOSCOW, Russian Federation – 20 December 2010 – The United Nations in the Russian Federation exhibited the top 30 winning posters of international competition of social print advertising ‘Unleash Your Creativity to End Poverty’. The competition asked the participants to create print ads for the United Nations Millennium Development Goals campaign. Kamchatka for the future: biodiversity conservation and development
MOSCOW, Russia – 25 November 2010 – The Russian Kamchatka Peninsula is situated in Russia's Far East between the Okhotsk Sea on the west and the Bering Sea on the east, eight time zones away from Russia's capital city. The size of Sweden, it is populated with less than 340,000 people, including some 4,500 indigenous people. Due to its previous isolation, low population density, few roads, small and dispersed settlements, and little large scale development, much of the peninsula still possesses intact, globally-significant biodiversity. Six years after Beslan tragedy, school opened in honour of hero

Chernobyl Communities Still Need Help, Sharapova Says
United Nations, New York May 2009- Tennis star Maria Sharapova is among the many for whom the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986 hits close to home. Her parents relocated because of the explosion, shortly before her birth. With that connection in mind, Sharapova urged the international community to work toward a common goal of rebuilding affected regions. She made her comments on behalf of the United Nations on the 23rd anniversary of the disaster. Video: Chernobyl Anniversary
