10 Best School Projects

Yerevan, October, 2007 – UC RUSAL in participation with the UNDP Global Compact Armenia has announced few days ago a launch of “10 Best School Projects” This is the beginning of a long-term partnership between UC RUSAL and the community which is aimed at promoting youth creativity and leadership in Armenia. 

The UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Consuelo Vidal told the audience that it is very important to allow schoolchildren to actively participate in solving their own problems, and to stimulate their creativity and self-confidence.

“Best School Projects” initiatives have been already implemented in Russia and Ukraine as UC RUSAL is conducting a comprehensive range of social programs in the regions, especially programs in the youth development.

Director Mr. Georgy Avetikyan, UC RUSAL ARMENAL said that this project is a first step of the UC RUSAL’s long term social commitment in Armenia. “UC RUSAL has a long and successful record of social and community relations programs as this is a key element of the company’s sustainable development in the regions of UC RUSAL's presence”.

Under this project schoolchildren from 7 to 11 grades will provide creative solutions to improve their schools and will have to compete for the funding. Everything in this project, from the proposal development to project execution, is done by youngsters.

The contest will be launched in early November and total of ten schools and two special proposals will be funded.
