Major activities

Enable and facilitate access to investment funds for selected and ready beneficiaries in the context of UNDP’s programmes in the region.

Situation analysis:
SNS REAAL has established a new Water Fund, based on the conclusion that there is a need for new/additional approaches and techniques for project finance of water, water management and sanitation.
Based on its local presence, comparative knowledge and specialized development expertise, UNDP has been approached by SNS REAAL to partner up in the identification and assessment of potential investment areas or initiatives, the development of concrete projects, and potential support in delivering services, monitoring activities and quality assurance during the implementation.

Proposed programme:
The two organizations (and potential additional involved partners) will work together based on the principle of bringing together each organization’s comparative advantages and specific expertise, as to (a) enable and facilitate access to investment funds for selected and ready beneficiaries in the context of UNDP’s programmes in the region, and (b) aiming at creating synergies and minimizing transaction costs on each partner’s side.
Concrete interventions will be developed on a case-to-case basis, in close coordination with involved Country Offices, governments, and any other relevant local stakeholders.

Anticipated results:
Access to affordable investment funds (i.e. at 5% yearly interest rate in average) for selected, ready (“bankable”) beneficiaries in the framework of UNDP programmes and interventions in Europe & CIS.

Current status:
Under implementation – first pilot project in Crimea/Ukraine (in the framework of UNDP’s Community Integration Development Programme / CIDP).
