Mr. Vladimir Mikhalev
UNDP Bratislava Regional Centre Summary: Vladimir Mikhalev is UNDP BRC policy advisor on pro-poor economic policy reform and its links to poverty alleviation and social policies. Vladimir has over 20 years' of research and consultancy experience gained in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the CIS and Southeast Asia. His professional expertise covers economic and social policies for poverty reduction, poverty analysis, labour markets and regional development in transitional and developing economies. He has published numerous research articles and analytical reports on economic and social policy, as well as edited a number of collective research publications. Before joining the UNDP Europe and CIS regional team, Vladimir worked for five years as senior economist and portfolio manager at Oxford Policy Management where he led projects and undertook numerous consultancy assignments in Eastern Europe, the CIS and Asia. He directed DfID’s statistical capacity building project in the Kyrgyz Republic and DfID's regional development project in Armenia. In 1998-2000 Vladimir directed a project on Income Distribution and Social Structures during the Transition for the World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU/WIDER) in Helsinki. He was a resident adviser to the World Bank's SOSAC project in the Kyrgyz Republic in 1997-98. Prior to his international career he worked for over 10 years as senior researcher in the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.
