Iknow politics portal

The International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics (iKNOW Politics) that aims to serve the needs of elected officials, candidates, political party leaders and members, researchers, students and other practitioners interested in advancing women in politics. It is a joint effort of the UNDP, UNIFEM, NDI (National Democratic Institute for International Affairs), IPU (the Inter-Parliamentary Union) and IDEA (the International International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance). Its ultimate goal is to foster women’s participation in political life, through offering its users the opportunity to

  • access resources (online library, information and expertise of other users, experts and practitioners);
  • create knowledge through the facilitation of a discussion forum, offering information exchange and consolidated expert responses to member queries; and 
  • share experiences by using tools specifically designed to facilitate the exchange of lessons learned and best practices among members of a global community committed to the advancement of women in politics.

  

Gender Mainstreaming in Practice: A Toolkit

Over 10 years have passed since the United Nations formally recognized that gender equality is necessary to ensure equitable and sustainable human development. Since then, the integration of a gender perspective into programming and policy-making – Gender Mainstreaming – has become a key priority. To help implement this mandate, the Bratislava Regional Centre has published Gender Mainstreaming in Practice: A Toolkit. It presents the methodology behind gender mainstreaming based on best practices, and provides examples of how gender mainstreaming can be implemented through policy-making and programming across Europe, the CIS, and beyond.
