The main objective of the Project is to create enabling environment for the government in its efforts to increase women’s representation in decision making levels based on the recommendations of the UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women. The project will contribute to the national gender policy’s implementation as described in the Presidential Decree on the Measures on Improvement of the Gender Policy, targeted on introduction of 30% quotas to women in decision making positions, National Action Plan for Gender Equality for 2007 - 2010 and Country Development Strategy. The project will be based on the results of the joint UNDP/SIDA project “Promotion of gender equality in politics” (2004 -2005). MAIN ACTIVITIES: The project objectives will be achieved through the following: 1) Harmonization of the local legislation with the international conventions and gender laws of KR on gender equality; 2) Strengthening of capacity of the government officials and judges in gender sensitive personnel policies; 3) Participation of civil society in the oversight over the promotion of women in decision-making by the government institutions; Increase of awareness about the process of promotion of women to decision making positions through media and advocacy. |
