In Cyprus there are various examples where women have played important and leading roles in peace efforts. However, on other occasions, the role of women has been marginalized, especially during official and political negotiations. The project will conduct and support research on the role of women, and gender mainstreaming considerations in peacebuilding efforts. It will focus on three key areas: internal project staff capacity-building, project programme integration, and special gender projects. The role of gender in peacebuilding and specifically the role that women play in peace processes are obviously of strategic importance. ACT activities in this area will feed into the BCPR-RBEC strategy of improving positive outcomes for women in CPR programming.
