Slovenia opened its second biomass heating plant in Kocevje just in time for winter as part of a Global Environmental Facility (GEF) project to boost the use of biomass as an energy source in the country.

The district heating venture for the municipality of Kocevje was supported by the GEF, the Government of Slovenia, and the Environmental Fund of Slovenia as part of the GEF project, 'Slovenia - Removing Barriers to the increased use of Biomass as an Energy Source', for which UNDP is acting as implementing agency. Daniela Gasparikova, UNDP Country Support Team Leader, attended the opening ceremony.
