Kosovo – UN Administered Territory under UNSC 1244

The project aims to improve UN support to the national response and contribute to expanding HIV prevention, care and treatment leading to reduced HIV vulnerability and infections, through definition and agreement of roles and lines of accountability of the UN Resident Coordinator, UN Theme Group and Joint Unit Team on AIDS and development of the Joint UN Programme of Support on AIDS.

How is being achieved?

To establish a basis for an Institutional Framework for the Joint UN Team on AIDS and for development and approval of the Joint UN Programme of Support 2008 – 2010, the Kosovo UN Joint Team on AIDS will organize a series of activities that will culminate with a a three day workshop/retreat with participation of the members of the UN Joint Team on AIDS and UN Theme Group on AIDS (consisted from Resident Coordinator and Heads of the UN Agencies). The activity will result in defining and agreeing on a Terms of Reference for the UN Joint Team on AIDS, roles and responsibilities of the Resident Coordinator and UN Theme Group and developing a final draft of the UN Joint Programme of Support and a tentative operating budget of the Joint UN Team. The Joint UN Programme of Support will be a three year strategic framework that will provide long term guidance to the AIDS Team based on identified priorities. Within the strategic framework an annual work plan for the AIDS Team will be developed that identifies annual key results that contributes to the achievement of outcomes. It will reflect areas that are implemented jointly or individually. Each key result will be linked to individual and joint agency activities and responsibilities and a specific source of funding. Discussions for participation of UNAIDS representatives will be conducted with the UNAIDS Secretariat and the Regional Support Team for Europe and CIS.
