International Frameworks

  • Kyoto Protocol
    The protocol is an international agreement that sets legally binding targets and timetables for cutting the GHG emissions of countries. The UNFCCC website provides information on Kyoto’s background mechanisms, reporting and compliance.
  • United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
    The convention on climate change which entered into force in 1994 sets an overall framework for intergovernmental efforts to tackle the challenge posed by climate change.
  • Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
    The CDM provides for industrialized countries (Annex I) to implement projects that reduce emissions in developing countries (non Annex I) in return for Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs).
