International Frameworks
- Kyoto Protocol

- United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
The convention on climate change which entered into force in 1994 sets an overall framework for intergovernmental efforts to tackle the challenge posed by climate change.

The CDM provides for industrialized countries (Annex I) to implement projects that reduce emissions in developing countries (non Annex I) in return for Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs).

Joint Implementation (JI)
JI provides for Annex I countries to implement projects that reduce emissions or remove carbon from the atmosphere in other Annex I countries in return for Emission Reduction Units (ERUs).

IETA is a non profit organization created to establish a functional international framework for trading GHG emissions. The website provides information on climate change and emissions trading.
- European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS)
EU ETS, a multi-nation emissions trading scheme, commenced in 2005. This website is maintained by the European Commission an dprovides information on the Commission’s work, including its environmental policy and the ETS.
