Climate Change Mitigation

The UNDP’s Energy Sub-Practice aims to provide policy and technical advice to governments and UNDP country offices in order to help mobilize assets from various resources such as GEF, UNDP, MDG Carbon Finance Facility and other sources that address global climate change and national and local energy sector priorities. It will also focus on removing policy, capacity, financial and technological barriers to the establishment of energy efficient technologies and processes, and renewable sources of energy.

Carbon financing offers opportunities for these countries to attract investment and simultaneously cut emissions. It is part of the UNDP’s greater mission of advocating change and reducing poverty. The UNDP is working closely with the region to find solutions to help fund more sustainable development for the future. In this essence, the UNDP has launched Leveraging Carbon Finance for Sustainable Development in South-eastern Europe and the CIS, a project aimed at developing public and private sector capacities to access carbon finance, identify opportunities, and provide project management services to individual projects in order to help spur a dynamic carbon market in the region.
