CPR and Gender

Adopting a gender approach in CPR means recognizing how men and women are affected differently by conflicts and natural disasters. In the past two decades the position of women in many parts of the region has significantly deteriorated, due to conflicts, instability, economic transition and dramatic social changes.

Bratislava Regional Centre, in partnership with five UNDP country offices in the Western Balkans (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia) is developing a regional project proposal that mainstreams both gender equality and crisis prevention and recovery considerations. The project is guided by the UNDP Eight-Point Agenda for Gender Equality in Crisis Prevention and aims to: provide support to women’s representation in the social, political and economic spheres; develop women’s networks and institutions for conflict prevention; and build women’s skills and confidence in disaster risk reduction, peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction for more inclusive and democratic societies in the Western Balkans.
