Child with face paint, Uzbekistan's Republican Cancer Hospital

Helping to inspire UNDP

Last Saturday a small task force of “crazy” volunteers from UNDP in Uzbekistan opened up a new, colourful playroom in a  grey, dull looking  Soviet-style Republican Cancer Hospital. We hope it will bring some relief to kids suffering from cancer. With $1,500 in donations and in-kind contributions we were able to pull this off in only two months. It was a simple way for us to reconnect with our core purpose and the motivations that brought us to join a development organization in the first place. What if we could transfer this “rapid development” project approach and make it a standard operating principle for the development sector?

Aziza, congratulations for this great initiative! It is my suggestion that this initiative is publicised widely within and outside UNDP.

I particularly appreciate your reasoning driving you to implement this initiative; the connection between purpose and motivation to join a development organisation and good deeds performed.
